A Fresh Start

We can all benefit a fresh start from time to time, a chance to wipe the slate clean, draw a line under past failures and disappointments, and begin again. A fresh start can give us new energy, new enthusiasm, and a chance for things to be different.

I got a fresh start six months ago, when I moved to Young. It wasn’t that I was unhappy where I was or running away from failures. But I was ready for a new challenge to get me excited about my work again. I’d never been to Young or thought of living here until I was invited to consider a position with Young District Anglican Ministry. While not without a few difficulties, the move was liberating.

We all get a kind of a mini fresh start each year on New Year’s Day. That’s what New Year’s resolutions are all about. On New Year’s Eve, we draw a line under the past year. On New Year’s Day, we begin again. Of course, major problems won’t just disappear because we’ve turned over the page on the calendar. We’d be deluding ourselves if we thought they would. But sometimes making a change in just one small part of life can have a positive impact on other parts.

And can I suggest that God is the master of transformational fresh starts. The bible says, “
anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun! And this is a gift from God, who brought us back to himself through Christ. (2 Corinthians 5:17-18). If a new beginning seems impossible, why not ask the expert and see what he can do to help?

I wish you all a very safe and happy New Year.
